AARO Picnic - 28 May - Reminder

Dear Members,

The cut-off for the picnic is almost upon us (30th April) - please take
a look at your schedules and see if you can make it!

Several people will be driving from Prague and rides can be arranged
subject to space in cars. This is always a highly enjoyable AARO event,
an opportunity to relax in beautiful countryside with wonderful food
and drink, in the capable hands of our generous hosts, Norbert and
Alena Auerbach, at their delightful cottage in Cesky Raj, an hour and a
half north of Prague by car.

Tour of the Archbishop's Palace - May 6th

Dear Members,

By kind arrangement of AARO member Jana Vachtova, we have the opportunity to offer members an exclusive tour of the Archbishop's Palace on Hradcanske Namesti (see below for a brief description). The main interior of the building is not open to the public, so this is quite a rare opportunity.

A tour has provisionally been scheduled for Friday May 6th at 3pm sharp and will last for approximately one hour. A member of staff will guide us and give a commentary in English.

If you'd like to take part in this event, please confirm to this address no later than 22nd April. There will be a voluntary contribution of 50 CZK towards staff costs.

Archbishop's Palace (Arcibiskupský Palác)

Hradcanska nam. 16, Praha 1, Hradcany, Metro: Malostranska, then walk to Prague Castle.
Located in Hradcanska namesti, the imposing Archbishop's Palace dates back to the mid-15th century, although Bonific Wohlmut's original Renaissance design was later remodelled at the behest of Antonín Bruse of Mohelnice in 1763. Boasting a splendid rococo façade, the palace's interior is equally impressive - a fine set of sumptuous Gobelin tapestries adorn several rooms, with decorative 18th-century furnishings set amidst a large collection of ecclesiastical portraits. Elsewhere, a small chapel (open to the public on the day before Good Friday) features lovely 17th-century frescoes by Daniel Alexius.
