WHAT: AMERICAN EMPIRE: A DEBATE Discussion
Is America an empire? Lecture by Bradley A. Thayer, a tenured professor at Baylor University's Department of Political Science. Professor Thayer will explore whether America fits the definition of 'an empire', will address the pluses and minuses of America's global leadership, and will welcome alternative viewpoints.
The discussion will be held in English.

WHAT: CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC Lecture
Professor Vladimíra Dvořáková, PhD., a respected professor at the University of Economics' Department of Political Science in Prague—and president of the Czech Ministry of Education's Accreditation Commission—will discuss the future of Czech tertiary education. In 2007 Dvořáková took part in the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program on higher education in the U.S. Ms. Dvořáková will take audience questions following her lecture.

Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day he stumbles into Christmas Town, and is so taken with the idea of Christmas that he tries to get the resident bats, ghouls, and goblins of Halloween town to help him put on Christmas instead of Halloween -- but alas, they can't get it quite right. This cult film by Tim Burton was created long before frame-by-frame computer animation.
The movie will be screened in English with English subtitles.

WHAT: IT´S A WONDERFUL LIFE Film screening
An annual American TV classic for the Christmas holidays, It's a Wonderful Life follows, in flashback, George Bailey (James Stewart), who spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is a broken man contemplating suicide due to his bank's impending failure and the machinations of evil millionaire, Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, his family, and his friends would have turned out if he had never been born. George has meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away?
